International Seminar Series to focus on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals
Wednesday, March 20 , 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm CDT
The upcoming event for the Spring International Seminar Series is now open for registration. All events will be presented simultaneously in-person in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center, and online through Zoom. The discussion will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 12 p.m. (noon)-1 p.m. These events are free and open to the public. RSVP is required for in-person attendance.
The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 interlinked objectives designed to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges by 2030. The most ambitious and arguably important global agreements in recent history, the SDGs cover a wide range of complex social, economic, and environmental challenges. How we address them will require transformations in how societies and economies function and how we interact with our planet. The Center for Civic Engagement, the Office of International Engagement, and the Office of Sustainability will be exploring how Illinois State University can engage with United Nations’ SDGs to not only contribute to the global effort, but also to demonstrate our campus’s global impact.
Session three is titled “Brainstorming – what would full SDG implementation look like at ISU.” During this session, we welcome three faculty and/or staff members from ISU who have implemented the UN SDG framework into their teaching, research and scholarship, and unit strategic plans. There will also be opportunities for attendees to begin brainstorming how they might consider the SDG framework in their own work practices.
This session will feature:
- Christine Bruckner, Assistant Director, Office of Sustainability
- Melissa Calvillo, Instructional Assistant Professor, Mennonite College of Nursing
- Dr. Alec Foster, Assistant Professor, Department of Geology, Geography, and the Environment
- Elisabeth Reed, Director, Office of Sustainability
- Dr. Rachel Waring-Sparks, Assistant Director of Assessment, Center for Civic Engagement
Lunch will be provided before the event at 11:45 a.m. CST. In-person RSVP is required so that an accurate food count will be available. Alternatively, you can also join the event via this Zoom link. Advance registration is not necessary for online attendance.
Anyone with questions, concerns, or regarding any accommodation to participate fully, should contact Emmy Buonomo at ecbuono@IllinoisState.edu or call the Office of International Engagement at (309) 438-1651. Allow sufficient time to arrange the accommodation, thank you.
In partnership with ISU Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality and the Office of Sustainability, our goal is to make this a zero-waste series.
