International Seminar Series on Global Perspectives: Democracy and Elections Around the World
Wednesday, November 13 , 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm CST
The concluding event of the Fall 2024 International Seminar Series will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 12 p.m. (noon) – 1 p.m. in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center or via the virtual zoom link below. International Seminar Series events are free and open to the public with advance registration.
Series Overview: Politics are personal and local, but they are also inherently global. This semester’s series seeks to explore the intersections of U.S. and global politics. Speakers and panelists will examine the complexities of governance, electoral and political systems, information sharing, voting, and democracy in a rapidly globalizing world. Together, series attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how political dynamics shape and are shaped by international interactions.
This final session is titled “Elections and the Global Economy.” Our faculty expert will focus on how elections have far-reaching implications for the global economy. He will examine how electoral outcomes influence economic policies, international trade, and global markets. He will also explore the economic dimensions of elections, including how economics shape voter behavior and how different political platforms impact economic stability and growth. Attendees will gain a deeper insight into the economic consequences of political decisions both domestically and internationally.
The event will feature:
Dr. James (Jim) Scott, University Professor and Chair of the Department of Politics and Government, Illinois State University.
Lunch will be provided before the event at 11:45 a.m. RSVP is required for in-person attendance. If you cannot attend in-person and still want to join, please use this Zoom link. Advance registration is not necessary for online attendance.
