Event Description

We have an exciting and FREE youth project for 12 youth ages 11-18. Illinois Art Station, in partnership with Artolution and BCAI -Breaking Chains & Advancing Increase School of Arts welcomes Karla (CJ) Thomas who will be facilitating a weeklong (June 3-7) dance and theater workshop with local youth.

Youth will create a piece that tells their stories and will be performed during our 2019 Youth Mural Reveal on June 9 at noon. We can only accept 12 bodies, so make sure you’re committed!

About the artist: Karla-Jayne Thomas, also known as CJ and Karlinha do Tamborim, is a Jamaican-English artist and educator in the areas of dance, improv comedy, theatre, percussion, singing and creative writing. She has a talent for combining the arts with her passion for teaching young people. Karla specializes in samba dancing and is a prominent member of the London School of Samba and Samba New York, both of which crowned her Queen of the Drums, the highest honor for a samba dancer.
