Bill Kemp to Talk to the University Club – Friday, Oct 22. at 3 p.m. via Zoom.

Title:  “Art on the Farm: A Tale of Two Central Illinois Artists—Lou Burk and Alfred Montgomery”

Bill Kemp, who has served as librarian for the not-for-profit McLean County Museum of History for the past 18 years, will give a presentation entitled, “Art on the Farm: A Tale of Two Central Illinois Artists—Lou Burk and Alfred Montgomery” at the University Club at 3 p.m. Friday, October 22, via Zoom. Lou Burk (1845-1914) and Alfred Montgomery (1857-1922) were two of the more important artists who made Bloomington home during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The careers of both men are inextricably linked with the Central Illinois Corn Belt. Montgomery primarily painted ear corn and Burk livestock. The rise of folk art as a serious subject matter for scholars and collectors alike has boosted the reputations of both artists.

The University Club is the only University-wide social group available for all ISU faculty, staff, administrative professionals, and annuitants. In the “pre-Covid Era” we met every Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. when the University was in session in the Faculty/Staff Commons in the Bone Student Center, with available snacks and libations. Since March 2020 we have greatly reduced our programming schedule and we meet via Zoom every three weeks on Fridays at 3 p.m.

You need not be a University Club member to attend. Additional information about University Club events and activities can be found at our website (https://uclub.illinoisstate.edu/).
