Charles W. Bolen Faculty Recital: Igor Kalnin, violin
Sunday, September 8 , 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm CDT
Award-winning Duo MemDi will present a recital on Sunday, September 8, at 3pm. The program will include Florence Price’s Fantasie No. 1 in G minor, “The Lark Ascending” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Sonata No. 2 for Violin and Piano by James Lee III, and a rarely performed arrangement of Paganini’s Caprice No. 24 by Robert Schumann.
Duo MemDi was founded by violinist Igor Kalnin and pianist Rochelle Sennet in 2010. Their objective was to embrace the diversity of world cultures and to commission, introduce, and promote music by composers from underrepresented groups. To ensure total commitment to composers’ ideas, the duo performs all repertoire by memory, a rarity in the field of chamber music. Since its inception the duo traveled across the US and internationally and released their debut recording “Gathering Shatters” in 2016 on Albany Records. This past summer they held a ten-day residency at the Uzbekistan State Conservatory in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and served as ensemble-in-residence at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan.
