Join the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning (CESL) on September 17 to celebrate Constitution Day. CESL will be in Schroeder Plaza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by to pick up a pocket-sized copy of the Constitution and learn about various civic engagement opportunities and initiatives at Illinois State. Voter registration will also be available.
Constitution Day is commemorated each year on September 17, the date on which the founding fathers signed the document in 1787. The United States Constitution established the basic framework of government, as well as the rights and freedoms afforded individuals.
“Constitution Day is an opportunity for us to celebrate our core value of civic engagement,” said CESL Director Dr. Katy Strzepek. “Commemorating the day allows us to reflect upon the complexities of the Constitution as well as on the history of our imperfect democracy and the ways we can work for a more just and equitable society. It’s particularly important in this election year.”
