ELEVATE Leadership Week
Event Description
Leadership Education and Development (LEAD), a unit of the Dean of Students Office, invites you to participate in a weeklong celebration of leadership at Illinois State University. This inaugural leadership week will feature opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to build connections and community while sharing and celebrating the leadership efforts and contributions of the Illinois State University campus.
Free Speech and the Inclusive Campus
Monday, April 12 | 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Issues of inclusion, diversity, and freedom of speech continue to challenge our campus and student communities. Join the Student Government Association (SGA), the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE), and Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) in a deliberative dialogue centering the topic of free speech and the inclusive campus. Tea at 3 Community Connection
Tuesday, April 13 | 3–4 p.m.
Tea at 3 is an in-person gathering designed to create an intentional and intimate space for leadership and community building. Participants can expect an array of tea and other beverage options, as well as open space conversation with the LEAD team centering leadership, current events, cultural storytelling, and more. Complimentary beverages and snacks are first come, first served. As a thank you for supporting the ELEVATE Leadership week and the LEAD community, first-time participants will also receive a complimentary Redbirds Lead mug (while supplies last). This event will be held in-person at the Student Involvement Center on the second floor of the Bone Student Center. We’ve EMERGED: Transfer Student Leadership Celebration
Wednesday, April 14 | 4–5 p.m.
The We’ve EMERGED experience celebrates our Illinois State University transfer students and their amazing accomplishments during this academic school year. During this power-hour, LEAD will celebrate the 2020-2021 EMERGE participants in their commitment to leadership on Illinois State’s campus and completion of the EMERGE transfer student experience program. Participants can expect to learn more about the Illinois State University transfer student community and discover opportunities to join the EMERGE leadership network. Illinois State University Community Leader Roundtable
Thursday, April 15 | 5:30–7 p.m.
The Illinois State University Community Leader Roundtable is a great way to connect with local activists, advocates, change agents, and Leaders of Social Change (LOSC) campus alum as they share their journeys working towards social justice in Bloomington-Normal. Featured community leaders include Illinois State University alums and former student leaders—Katie Pratt, Isaac Hollis, and Alex Campbell, Olivia Butts of Bloomington-Normal Black Lives Matter, and Jeff Woodward of the McLean County Museum of History. The Art of Mindful Leadership with Shawn J. Moore
Friday, April 16 | 10 a.m.–noon
Featuring leadership and meditation educator Shawn J. Moore, The Art of Mindful Leadership is a two-hour virtual experience that explores the concept of leadership as it intersects with creative mindfulness and communication. Participants can expect to learn key elements of mindfulness and strategies to practice mindfulness for leadership growth, creative resilience, personal power, and healing.
