Exhibit: Finding Hovey
Tuesday, February 1 , 7:00 am – 11:59 pm
Charles Hovey played a significant role in the founding, development, and early operations of Illinois State Normal University. Organized by University Archivist April Anderson-Zorn, Finding Hovey explores the recent restoration and conservation of a portrait featuring Hovey during his pre-Civil War years. The restoration of the Hovey portrait was made possible by a generous donation from the George and Helen Obalil Family Fund and illustrates how giving to the library can support University education beyond the classroom.
Additional artifacts and information are also a part of the exhibit, including Hovey’s Civil War swords. With the portrait back on campus for the first time in decades, patrons are invited to explore this important piece of art and discover new details about Illinois State University’s history.
