Making Faces and Mapping Spaces: Portrait Ownership in the Seventeenth Century

Saskia Beranek will discuss her ongoing research into the ownership and display of artwork—specifically portraits—by women in the seventeenth-century Dutch Republic. Using maps and inventories, she examines how and why women displayed art, and how the surviving archival documents allow researchers to access the otherwise invisible choices made by women about the domestic spaces they occupied.

This event is presented in connection with the Faculty Biennial, an exhibition featuring the work of 32 faculty in the Wonsook Kim School of Art and Creative Technologies Program. The exhibition is on view daily at University Galleries (11 Uptown Circle, Suite 103). All events are free and open to the public. Masks are required.
