Guest Artist Masterclass: Naria Kim, violin

New York-born violinist Naria Kim made her solo debut with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra at Sejong Arts Center at the age of twelve, as a winner of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra Soloist Audition. She later became the First Prize winner of the Alexander & Buono International String Competition and a laureate of the Osaka International Music Competition, Eurasia International Violin Competition, and Kumho Young Artist Audition, among many others. Her creative projects, The Fantasy, Classics and the Blue Note, and Complete Brahms and Beethoven Violin Sonatas Cycles received multiple awards from the Arts Council Korea and Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture. Notable solo highlights include performances with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra (Bulgaria), Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and Korea National Military Symphony Orchestra in various venues around the world, such as Carnegie Weill Hall, NY Symphony Space Hall, Bulgaria Concert Hall, Seoul Arts Center, Chicago Cultural Center, Kumho Arts Hall, and Lee Hysan Concert Hall in Hong Kong.
Dr. Kim has been invited to perform as a soloist at numerous international festivals in Belgium, Korea, Italy, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and across the US. Her discography includes a two-disc album, Memoirs of Piazzolla, released on SONY Classical, and a digital album Three Moods, which was commissioned for the Sound Stage Ensemble Group in Korea. Her live performances and recordings were broadcasted through Korea Broadcasting System-TV, KBS classic FM, Chicago WFMT, and CPBC FM. In 2020, she was highlighted as Cover Artist of the Strad Korea Magazine.
Dr. Kim has earned an undergraduate diploma from Korea National University of Arts, Master of Music and Artist Diploma from Yale University, and Doctor of Musical Arts from Stony Brook University. She has taught at Stony Brook University (NY), Naugatuck Valley Community College (CT), and Korea National University of Arts. As an international teaching artist, she has given masterclasses and clinics at Korea Soriter Arts Center, Euro Music Academy-Korea, Cremona Summer Festival/International Academy of Arts in Italy, Alsace-Musicalta Music Festival in France, Luther College in Iowa, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and Chinese University of Hong Kong. Currently, she is on the violin faculty at Gyeongan Graduate University and Ewha University in Seoul, Korea, as well as the founding member of Namhae International Music Festival & Academy in Namhae, Korea.
