Guest Artist Recital: Francis Favis, percussion

Event Description

This concert will feature new works for percussion including Klingen Lassen for snare drum and tape, Burritt Variations for marimba, and the Illinois Premier of Talk! Talk for percussion and live electronics by Kelley Sheehan.

BIO
Hailing from Illinois, Francis Favis is a percussionist who is
regularly engaged with both teaching and performing. With a
background in a wide variety of musical styles, Francis is a versatile
musician, though especially interested in modern and electro-acoustic
areas. Recent engagements include appearances with the American
Festival Pops Orchestra, percussion soloist on John Mackey’s Drum
Music with GMU, a premiere in Vancouver for the College Music
Society International Conference, and solo performance at the
McCormick Marimba Festival. He is an alum of both the Nief-Norf
Summer Festival and the So Percussion Summer Institute, and is on the
faculty for the Music for All Summer Symposium.

Francis holds a BM in Music Performance from Illinois State
University and is working towards his MM in Music Performance from
George Mason University. His primary teachers include David Collier,
Ben Stiers, John Spirtas, and John Kilkenny.
