Inaugural Anne and Stephen Matter Artist Lecture Series: Bethany Collins

Thursday, March 24, 7:00 pm8:00 pm

Free

Bethany Collins‘ conceptual prints, drawings, paintings, sculptures, artist’s books, and performances explore connections between race, language, and American history. Her work has been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago; The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis; Center for Book Arts, New York; and Goodman Gallery, Johannesburg, South Africa, among many others.

The first survey of Collins’ work was organized by, and presented at, University Galleries of Illinois State University in 2019. In connection with the exhibition, University Galleries and Normal Editions Workshop in the Wonsook Kim School of Art partnered to bring Collins to campus to create new lithographs, and Milner Library’s Special Collections acquired a copy of Collins’s America: A Hymnala laser-cut “hymnal” examining 100 different versions of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.”
