International Seminar Series: The Pacifist’s Challenge

Date:
Wednesday, February 8th
Time:
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Event Description

Daniel Breyer, associate professor of philosophy and director of the Religious Studies minor at Illinois State, will present “The Pacifist’s Challenge: How to be Peaceful in a Troubled World” in the Prairie Room.

Pacifists face a powerful challenge. How is it possible to remain peaceful in an unjust and violent world? In his talk, he will explain why this challenge is so pressing, especially today, and then offer a few compelling answers to it, drawing inspiration from the work of Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, and secular thinkers alike.

Breyer has published articles on epistemology, moral psychology, philosophy of religion, Buddhist philosophy, and other topics. He is currently completing a manuscript on moral responsibility.

If you will need special accommodations, please contact the event organizer.
