International Seminar Series to focus on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals
Wednesday, April 17 , 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm CDT
The last event for the Spring International Seminar Series is now open for registration. All events will be presented simultaneously in-person in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center, and online through Zoom. The discussion will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, 12 p.m. (noon)-1 p.m. These events are free and open to the public. RSVP is required for in-person attendance.
The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 interlinked objectives designed to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges by 2030. The most ambitious and arguably important global agreements in recent history, the SDGs cover a wide range of complex social, economic, and environmental challenges. How we address them will require transformations in how societies and economies function and how we interact with our planet. Many Illinois State University (ISU) professionals over the duration of the series will explore how ISU can engage with United Nations’ SDGs to contribute to the global effort and demonstrate our campus’s global impact.
This session is titled “How can we further integrate SDGs into existing practices?” In this session, ISU leaders in research, teaching, and operations and governance will share actionable strategies to further introduce and/or integrate the SDGs and associated targets within each goal into attendees’ work at ISU or in the community. Attendees will consider how they can align their practices to targets within the SDGs in their unique experiences and contexts.
This session will feature:
- Christine Bruckner, Assistant Director, Office of Sustainability
- Dr. Dana Karraker, Assistant Director of Educational Development Programs, Center for Integrated Professional Development
- Mayuko Nakamura, Assistant Director for Assessment and Equitable Pedagogy, Center for Integrated Professional Development
- Dr. Harriett Steinbach, Director, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, Office of Research and Graduate Studies
- Dr. Rachel Waring-Sparks, Assistant Director of Assessment, Center for Civic Engagement
Lunch will be provided before the event at 11:45 a.m. CST. In-person RSVP is required so that an accurate food count will be available. Alternatively, you can also join the event via this Zoom link. Advance registration is not necessary for online attendance.
Anyone with questions, concerns, or regarding any accommodation to participate fully, should contact Emmy Buonomo at ecbuono@IllinoisState.edu or call the Office of International Engagement at (309) 438-1651. Allow sufficient time to arrange the accommodation, thank you.
