Event Description

The Illinois State University Planetarium is excited to offer “Astronomy: 3000 Years of Stargazing,” on Friday, September 2 and Saturday, September 3. This is a single weekend event and will not be offered again. Show times for this spectacular full-dome video presentation are Friday at 7:30 PM and Saturday at 2 and 7:30 PM.
The show takes you on a tour of the major astronomical milestones of the last 3000 years. We delve into the cosmological models of antiquity, from the Ptolemaic system and its epicycles to the contributions of Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, Newton, and Herschel.

Afterward we’ll take a tour of the current evening sky, exploring many highlights including the bright stars, constellations, and planets visible from Central Illinois.

Admission to the Illinois State University Planetarium is $4 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12 and seniors, and $2 for children ages 3-4. Free parking for the Planetarium is available a short distance away in the University’s red-tag F-67 lot, located on the east side of School Street.
