Event Description

The Illinois State University Planetarium is pleased to offer “Two Small Pieces of Glass: The Amazing Telescope,” on Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17. This is a single weekend event and will not be offered again. Show times for this powerful full-dome video presentation are Friday at 7:30 PM and Saturday at 2 and 7:30 PM.
“Two Small Pieces of Glass: The Amazing Telescope” follows two students as they interact with an astronomer at a local star party. Along the way, the students learn the history of the telescope from Galileo’s modifications to a child’s spyglass — using two small pieces of glass — to the launch of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and the future of astronomy. Geared to engage audiences of all ages, the show explores the wonders discovered by astronomers over the last 400 years.

After “Two Small Pieces of Glass” we’ll take a tour of the current evening sky, exploring many highlights including the bright stars, constellations, and planets visible from Central Illinois.

Admission to the Illinois State University Planetarium is $4 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12 and seniors, and $2 for children ages 3-4. Free parking for the Planetarium is available a short distance away in the University’s red-tag F-67 lot, located on the east side of School Street.
