Lose the Points: Grading Systems that Emphasize Learning
Research shows that students associate grades with the work they completed, their effort, or how hard they worked… while faculty believe grades reflect a level of learning. This workshop will introduce two alternative methods for assigning grades: Specification Grading and Standards-based Grading. You will explore each grading system using example syllabi from University courses, evaluate the benefits and challenges of each system, and learn how to incorporate one of these grading systems your own courses. A stipend is available for eligible participants. Registration is required.
