Event Description

Are you the first person in your family to go to college? Have you ever felt like you needed to change who you are to “fit in” on campus? Did you start working at a young age to cover your expenses and/or your family’s?

If these questions relate to you, then you should attend this session focused on honoring our roots as the first in our families to go to college and our hard work in getting into Illinois State. The session will focus on cultural rather than financial wealth acquired through growing up poor or working-class. Together let us honor our struggles and those of our family as we pursue a college degree.

Join Diversity Advocacy for discussion surrounding relevant diversity and social justice topics. Lunch will be provided with a vegetarian option available. Please contact Violet Benn at tnbenn@IllinoisState.edu or (309) 438-5818 with any additional dietary needs.
