Maintaining Cultural Supremacy
Event Description
We explore ideas on the development of racist thoughts embedded in the system of racial oppressions. Registration is required.
A Journey to Becoming Anti-Racist is a series in which we discuss the inceptions of racist thoughts and systems and examine how we are all unwittingly socialized into these ideas – although we often have good intentions to be fair and just. Using a podcast series, we’ll critically examine the ideas of cultural-supremacy, color-blind ideology, and aversive racism. For each session, you’ll be asked to listen to 3-4 podcast episodes to prepare for the discussion.
Conversation on race and racism is often difficult, but we’ll together create a non-threatening, engaging environment to help you start (or continue) your journey to become anti-racist.
This workshop falls under the AAC&U High-Impact Educational Practice of Diversity/Global Learning.
