Event Description

In this session, we will go back to the beginning of the nation and examine how systems of racial oppression are created. This workshop meets on Friday, February 4th from 12:00-1:30pm but Registration is required by Friday, January 28th.

In CTLT’s Seeing White workshop and study group series, we will discuss the inceptions of racist-thoughts and system and how we are all unwittingly socialized into these ideas – although we often have good intentions to be fair and just. Using the podcast series called Seeing White, we’ll critically examine the ideas of whiteness, white-supremacy, color-blind ideology, and aversive racism. For each session, you’ll be asked to listen to 3-4 podcast episodes to prepare for the discussion. Conversation on race and racism is often difficult, but we’ll together create a non-threatening, engaging environment to help you start your journey to become anti-racist.

This workshop falls under the AAC&U High-Impact Educational Practice of Diversity/Global Learning.

If you will need special accommodations, please contact the event organizer.
