Making Course Material Affordable
Event Description
A 2016 study reveals 66% of students have not purchased one or more required textbooks because they cannot afford them. Moreover, data show that costly course materials can negatively impact student grades and retention at the university. Discover how you might ease the burden on students by using open educational resources (OERs). You’ll learn to locate and evaluate materials like open textbooks and find examples of affordable materials in your discipline. You’ll leave understanding Creative Commons licensing and understand models for authoring open textbooks—including exploring funding models and different publishing models. Participants are encourages to bring their laptops. A stipend is available for eligible participants. Registration is required.
