Making Course Materials Affordable for Students
Data show that costly course materials can negatively impact student grades and retention. 73% of ISU students have not purchased one or more required textbooks because they cannot afford them, according to a 2019 survey. Discover how you might ease this burden on students by using open educational resources (OERs) and other affordability measures, like library course reserves and databases. You’ll learn to locate and evaluate materials like open textbooks and find examples of affordable materials in your discipline. You’ll leave understanding Creative Commons licensing and models for authoring open textbooks—including funding models and different publishing models.
This one-week workshop is offered asynchronously via ReggieNet along with an individual Zoom meeting with the facilitator. Participants can expect to spend approximately six hours completing this workshop. A $100 stipend is available for eligible participants. Registration is required.
