Making Course Materials Affordable for Students
Data show that costly course materials can negatively impact student grades and retention. 66% of students have not purchased one or more required textbooks because they cannot afford them, according to a 2016 study. Discover how you might ease this burden on students by using open educational resources (OERs). You’ll learn to locate and evaluate materials like open textbooks and find examples of affordable materials in your discipline. You’ll leave understanding Creative Commons licensing and models for authoring open textbooks—including funding models and different publishing models. Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops. A stipend is available for eligible participants. Registration is required.
