MuKyia Poetics: Excavating Africa’s Rich Intellectual Musical Traditions

Ama Oforiwaa Aduonum (Nana), an award-winning and nationally recognized playwright and performer, is a professor of music who teaches classes in ethnomusicology and Black music and directs the African Music and Dance Ensemble.
She is also a Queen Mother in Ghana. She graduated from Fisk University with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and from Florida State University with Master and Doctoral degrees in ethnomusicology.
Aduonum gives talks, thought-provoking keynote addresses, book readings, etc. Her talks, which include storytelling, personal experiences, call and response, and experimental activities, have been described by her audience as motivational, organic, and transformative
Aduonum will share the beauty, relevance, and significance of Africa’s rich intellectual traditions/knowledges—proverbs, folktales, and music.
Audience will be encouraged to participate. This is one of many Black History celebrations.
