Percussion Ensemble
Event Description
ISU Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. David Collier and Dr. Ben Stiers, will present their spring concert Sounds and Friends in the Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Illinois State University.
For this concert, the ensemble will present a sonic exploration created by the interweaving of pitch and rhythm by a variety of composers. In Dopplegänger, composer Brian Mason explores the concept of duality through both musical and visual mirroring. Composer David Reeves has created Pieces of Eight, a more subtle work where the sonic pallet gradually changes almost imperceptibly at times.
Joining the ISU Percussion Ensemble are our friends – the Normal Community West High School Percussion Ensemble and the Graduated Percussion Ensemble. The NCWHS ensemble will perform Dr. Gradus ad Parnassum and Catching Shadows and then join the ISU Percussion Ensemble for “a whispering…”. Four recent graduates of the ISU Percussion Ensemble have returned to campus and will be performing David Skidmore’s Torched and Wrecked.
For further information on the concert, contact David Collier by e-mail at dcollier@ilstu.edu. If you will need a special accommodation, please contact the music office at music@ilstu.edu or call 438-7631.
