“Influence of Semiconducting Nanoparticles on the Optical Properties of Rare-earth Doped Glasses”
Glasses doped with rare-earth ions are interesting optical systems due to their potential for applications in a variety of optical devices. Enhancing the stimulated emission cross-section of the fluorescence emission of rare- earth ions is highly desired to make them suitable for these applications. Here we will talk about the effect of CdSe and ZnSe nanoparticles on the stimulated emission cross-section of Sm3+ ions doped in borate glasses. Preparation of glasses, growth of semiconducting nanoparticles, and analysis of the optical absorption and fluorescence spectra will be discussed in detail.
