Event Description

Listen as six brave high school students share their experiences navigating school suspension, violence, and trauma.

What to expect:

  • A student panel on how out-of-school suspension impacts African American students and their families
  • An insightful research presentation on the widespread consequences that are associated with school discipline
  • A call to action regarding school discipline reform and Senate Bill 100
  • A thought-provoking and collective discussion on solutions to racially disparate school discipline practices

Moderator: Dr. Charles Bell, Associate Professor, Department of Criminal Justice Sciences, Illinois State University
Panelists: Six Illinois high school students; Illinois State Representative William Davis; Dilliand Santoni, Sen. Kimberly Lightford Policy & Budget staff member; and Ricky Rodgers, Director of the organization African American Men in Unity.
