Schroeder Hall Gallery opening and presentation, What Is Hip Hop Culture?
Thursday, September 22 , 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm
What IS Hip Hop Culture?? Seems to still be entirely misunderstood and overlooked, under-estimated and disrespected through appropriation and other means. This exhibit strips Hip Hop culture down to its ancient and archetypal elements along with its more current nine understood elements through the various displays and presentations.
The 2022-2023 gallery exhibit is a collaboration between the Sociology and Anthropology department, the Stevenson Center, and the Wonsook Kim School of Art, along with Breaking Chains Advancing Increase (BCAI). BCAI is a cultural arts and humanities organization for youth specializing in dance, art, and the martial arts. It advocates for authenticity and honor for every culture that diversifies and strengthens our planet AND community.
The opening show will showcase BCAI artwork, a production of local step dance and graffiti artists. Students, interns, local artists, and artists out of Chicago have all contributed to this exhibit.
Join us for an evening of enlightenment and connection. Refreshments will be provided.
