The 2020 Election and the Future of American Politics

Monday, February 7, 6:30 pm8:00 pm

Vanderbilt University professor Dr. John Sides will be the keynote feature in this year’s Robert G. Bone Distinguished Lecture Series. Those interested can register for the webinar here.

The year 2020 was a tumultuous time in American politics. It brought a global pandemic, protests for racial justice, a razor-thin presidential election outcome, and a violent outburst that attempted to deny Joe Biden’s victory. This presentation explores the long-term trends and short-term shocks that shaped this dramatic year, as well as what those changes could mean for the 2022 and 2024 elections and for the future of American politics.

The Robert G. Bone Distinguished Lecture Series was established by the late Illinois State University President Robert G. Bone. Shared by the departments of History, Politics and Government, and Sociology and Anthropology, it brings distinguished scholars to Illinois State University to deliver a series of public lectures and to meet with faculty and students. This year’s  lecture is sponsored by the Department of Politics and Government in partnership with the the Office of International Studies and Programs.
