The ISU Planetarium Presents “Mayan Archaeoastronomy: Observers of the Universe”

Saturday, February 29th 2020
7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
$3 – $5

Event Description

The Illinois State University Planetarium is pleased to offer “Mayan Archaeoastronomy: Observers of the Universe,”running weekends from February 7 – May 9.  Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM.  There are no shows March 6 – April 4.

“Mayan Archaeoastronomy: Observers of the Universe” examines six different Mayan archaeological sites and their connection to the Universe.  “Mayan Archaeoastronomy” is unique among planetarium shows.  It intertwines science and mythology to take the viewer on a poetic exploration of the Mayans’ understanding of the Universe throughout history. The visuals are stunning, giving the viewer the impression of being inside a beautifully stylistic painting.  This artistic interpretation of the Universe makes for a journey that will not be forgotten.

“Mayan Archaeoastronomy: Observers of the Universe” is the first show fully animated for full dome made in and distributed to the more than 30 planetariums throughout Mexico, as well as internationally.

Admission to the ISU Planetarium is $5 for adults; $4 for children ages 5-12, seniors, and ISU ID holders; and $3.00 for children ages 3-4.  Tickets may be purchased in the Planetarium Gift Shop, next to the Planetarium, beginning 20 minutes before each show.

The newly remodeled ISU Planetarium is located under the white domed roof at the eastern end of Felmley Hall of Science Annex.  Felmley Hall is located on the northeast corner of the ISU campus at the intersection of College Avenue and School Street.

Free parking for the weekend programs is available a short distance from the ISU Planetarium in University parking lot F-67, located on the east side of School Street.
