Going to the Movies: Local Historic Movie Theaters
Dr. JoAnna Stephens Mink is a Volunteer Library Assistant at the McLean County Museum of History and Professor Emerita of English from Minnesota State University. She will present a talk entitled, “Going to the Movies: Local Historic Movie Theaters”, at 4:30 p.m. at the University Club in the Founders Suite in the Bone Student Center. By 1915, going to the movies was a part of American life. Theaters in Bloomington reflected the national trend as popular tastes transitioned from vaudeville to “talkies,” and the Normal Theater was the first movie house built for sound in the Twin Cities. Dr. Mink’s talk shows how this national cultural phenomenon came about in local theaters.
All faculty, staff, annuitants and guests are welcome to join us at the University Club from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday Nov 9 in the Founders Suite in the Bone Student Center. You need not be a University Club member to attend.
