Drawing Choreography: Designing Tools to Provoke, Engage and Capture the Embodied Language of Movement Artists
Dr. Kristin Carlson, Assistant Professor, Arts Technology in the ISU School of Fine Arts will present a talk entitled, “Drawing Choreography: Designing Tools to Provoke, Engage and Capture the Embodied Language of Movement Artists”, at 4:30 p.m. at the University Club in the Founders Suite in the Bone Student Center.
Choreographers develop work by moving, through using their bodies to explore sensations and concepts in the studio. Body knowledge is privileged and necessary in this work, yet computational tools are not yet designed to reflect embodied modes of knowledge. My work explores ways to leverage embodied knowledge in technology design. While I focus on designing tools that can support choreographic process, these tools have other applications such as gesture interaction with netflix, designing more engaging physical therapy tools, or creating more accessible and inclusive technologies in general.
All faculty, staff, annuitants and guests are welcome to join us at the University Club from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. this Friday in the Founders Suite in the Bone Student Center. You need not be a University Club member to attend. Additional information about U-Club events and activities can be found at our website, http://uclub.illinoisstate.edu/. Continued program support is provided by the Office of the ISU Provost and President. In addition, snacks and liquid refreshments are available at each meeting.
