The War to End All Wars: Poetry and Painting from the Front
Dr. JoAnna Stephens Mink, Professor Emerita of English, Minnesota State University, will present a talk entitled, “The War to End All Wars: Poetry and Painting from the Front” at 4:30 p.m. at the University Club in the Founders Suite in the Bone Student Center. “The Poetry is in the pity [of War],” wrote Wilfred Owen, one of Britain’s foremost poets during World War I. Dr. Mink’s presentation traces the change in attitude towards the war through the words and paintings of poets and artists who served at The Front from 1914 through 1918. Their words and images transcend the horror of this event and resonate with today’s audience.
All faculty, staff, annuitants and guests are welcome to join us at the University Club from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. this Friday in the Founders Suite in the Bone Student Center. You need not be a University Club member to attend. Additional information about U-Club events and activities can be found at our website, http://uclub.illinoisstate.edu/. Continued program support is provided by the Office of the ISU Provost and President. In addition, snacks and liquid refreshments are available at each meeting.
