University Program Board’s – Sexual Assault Awareness Month : Advocating for Survivors
The University Program Board is starting of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month a little early.
This event will be a way to set the tone for the month and give people resources that they need to help their friends/family/partners who have experienced sexual assault. The purpose is to help educate the student body on the importance of advocating for survivors, in a unique way that is sure to be informational and captivating for everyone.
First there will be a room full of art, poetry and other creations by survivors on campus. Then there will be a speaker from the YWCA to talk about rape trauma syndrome and why that is so important in current conversations of sexual assault especially in relation to the criminal justice system. Lastly we will show a video campaign made by activists on campus that will premier at this event and be used throughout campus by different organizations at their own events in the month.
