Visiting Artist Series | Zoom Lecture by Magalie Guérin
Illinois State University’s Wonsook Kim School of Art is honored to annually host the Visiting Artist Lecture Series. This series provides near weekly opportunities to learn from talented artists from all around the globe. Previously, these lectures were held in University Galleries in Uptown Normal. Due to current circumstances, the Spring 2021 iteration of the Visiting Artist Series will occur entirely on Zoom. This event series is free and open to the public.
Artist Statement from the featured artist, Magalie Guérin:
“Magalie Guérin (b. Montreal, 1973) is an artist based in Chicago. She holds an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. Recent solo shows were presented at Amanda Wilkinson gallery in London, Chapter NY in New York, Galerie Nicolas Robert in Montreal, James Harris in Seattle, Corbett vs Dempsey in Chicago, Schwarz Contemporary in Berlin, and Anat Egbi in Los Angeles. Recent group exhibitions include Elmhurst Museum (IL), DePaul Art Museum (IL), ICA at MECA (ME), Nicelle Beauchene (NY), Brand New gallery (Milan), and Rhona Hoffman (Chicago). Her work is in the collection of DePaul Art Museum and Hydro-Québec. She is the author of NOTES ON, a compilation of studio writings published by The Green Lantern Press in 2016 (second edition 2019), and teaches art at SAIC and College of DuPage. In 2019, Guérin was awarded the Pace Award for a mid-career painter at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and in 2018, a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant, as well as a Chinati Foundation residency. She is represented by Corbett vs. Dempsey in Chicago and Galerie Nicolas Robert in Montreal.”
