Illinois State University’s Wonsook Kim School of Art is honored to annually host the Visiting Artist Lecture Series. This series provides near weekly opportunities to learn from talented artists from all around the globe. Previously, these lectures were held in University Galleries in Uptown Normal. Due to current circumstances, the Spring 2021 iteration of the Visiting Artist Series will occur entirely on Zoom. This event series is free and open to the public. 

Artist Statement from the featured artist, Peter Barrickman:

“Peter Barrickman lives and works in Milwaukee. He received his BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and his MFA from Bard College.

His work has been shown at numerous galleries and museums internationally including The Whitney Museum of American Art, Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago, Green Gallery in Milwaukee, Nathalie Karg Gallery in NYC, 47 Canal in NYC, ZieherSmith Gallery in NYC, 356 Mission in Los Angeles, And/Or Gallery in Dallas, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit, Angstrom Gallery in Los Angeles, La Panaderia in Mexico City, Karma International in Zurich, Tanzschuleprojects in Munich, Crisp Gallery in London, The Tate Modern in London, Fluc in Vienna and Cite des Arts International in Paris.

He was the recipient of two Mary L. Nohl Fund Fellowships as well as a fellowship at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. He was an artist in residence at Centraltrak in Dallas and at the Millay Colony in Austerlitz, NY.

His work has been written about in Art Forum, Art Papers, Art in America online, the NewRepublic.com, Artnews.com and The New York Times online.

He currently teaches at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and is represented by The Green Gallery in Milwaukee and Nathalie Karg Gallery in New York City.”
