Welcome Week Service Project
Join the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning on the Quad in Schroeder Plaza as we stuff backpacks for the Back to School Alliance and build walls for Habitat for Humanity!
The Back to School Alliance is a local organization that distributes backpacks to area children to ensure they have the supplies they need to start the school year. Donations for the backpacks come from a variety of sources, including future Redbirds attending Preview in June and July. During the Welcome Week Service Project, Illinois State students will be filling 500 backpacks with those supplies.
As part of the Welcome Week Service Project, students will also be building walls with Habitat for Humanity of McLean County. Each year the Illinois State and Illinois Wesleyan student chapters of Habitat partner with Habitat for Humanity of McLean County to build a home in the local community. The walls built during Welcome Week will be used in the 26th local Collegiate Home.
Free registration is required for students who would like to build walls. Registration is not required to stuff backpacks, but the backpacks will fill quickly. You must be an Illinois State student to participate.
