What Can I Do With a Career in Libraries?

Thursday, October 6 , 5:30 pm 7:00 pm

Milner Library will host two panel presentations the first week of October 2022 with the aim of assisting attendees in answering the question, “What can I do with a career in libraries?” Panelists representing a variety of departments and specialties will describe their work, expound upon the paths they took to arrive at their current career, and give advice to those wishing to explore library work as a career. Attendees will learn about trajectories available with and without a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS), as well as opportunities outside of libraries for those with education or experience in the field. Admissions officers from the MLIS programs at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Chicago State University will also be available to answer questions.

In lieu of a formal Q & A, attendees are invited to mingle with the panelists and enjoy light refreshments following the presentation portion of the event. These events are free and open to the public.

Panelists for this session include:

  • Elizabeth Babin, circulation desk manager, Milner Library
  • Travis Givens, night circulation supervisor, Milner Library
  • Katrina Hagler and Karla Lucht, admissions officers, School of Information Sciences, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
  • Rae-Anne Montague, program coordinator, Library and Information Science, Chicago State University (virtual)
  • Lindsey Skaggs, instructional design librarian, Milner Library
