Your Voice Matters!
Event Description

Illinois State University’s Voter Engagement Coalition is excited to host “Your Voice Matters!,” a virtual panel where student leaders will have conversations with local elected officials about their political engagement stories! Questions for the elected officials will include:
- Why did they decide to get involved in politics?
- Why did they decide to run for office?
- What struggles did they overcome?
We are excited to welcome several important elected officials for the event: Jennifer Carrillo (Bloomington City Council), Chemberly Cummings (Normal Town Council) and Sharon Chung (McLean County Board). These local elected officials are all significant in their own right. Jenn Carrillo is the first Latina and openly queer woman on the Bloomington City Council. Chemberly Cummings is the first Black woman to serve on the Normal Town Council. Sharon Chung is the first Asian-American elected official in McLean County.
Our student panelists will be representatives from ISU diversity advocacy organizations, including Black Student Union, Pride, the Association of Latinx American Students, and the Asian Pacific American Coalition!
Please join us for this conversation on Thursday, October 8, from 6 to 8 p.m.
