Healthy Meals Matter: Combatting Food Insecurity In Our Communities (featuring Dion’s Chicago Dream)

Tuesday, October 17, 2023 , 6:30 pm 8:30 pm CDT

Food insecurity is a pressing issue that affects millions of people around the world. It’s not just about hunger; it’s about the fundamental human right to access nutritious and affordable food. Impacting not only physical health but also mental and emotional well-being, food insecurity on college campuses is a pressing issue that affects far too many students, hindering their academic performance, mental well-being, and the overall college experience. Together, we can raise awareness, support campus food programs, and advocate for policies that prioritize the well-being of our fellow students.

Join the Leadership Education and Development (LEAD), a unit of the Dean of Students Office, for a critical roundtable conversation centering combatting food insecurity on campus and beyond. Joining the conversation is Dion Dawson, founder and executive director of Chicago-Englewood community organization, Dion’s Chicago Dream. Dion’s Chicago Dream is a Chicago-based non-profit headquartered in the Englewood area. Founded in 2020, this organization is committed to fighting food insecurity by using nutritional philanthropy as a catalyst to feed families, create community, and fuel hope. To date, Dion’s Chicago Dream has served over 225,000 families and 650,000 pounds of fresh produce to food desert areas in Chicago.

This program is a part of the elective experience offerings for the Leaders of Social Change Institute.
